the pearling path
Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2012, showcases Bahrain’s historic pearl industry through a collection of 17 buildings in Muharraq City, three offshore oyster beds, a seashore segment, and the Qal’at Bu Mahir fortress. These sites reflect the cultural and economic significance of pearling, which shaped Bahrain’s identity and dominated the Gulf economy from the 2nd century until the 1930s. The 3.5 km Pearling Path connects these locations, offering insight into traditional sea resource use and architectural heritage.
