templo de la luna
The Templo de la Luna is a small, finely carved Inca rock sanctuary near Cusco, dedicated to the moon deity and featuring a natural cave with intricate stonework, including a silver-sheeted altar (now lost), symbolic pumas, snakes, and a circular moon emblem on the ceiling. Often visited together with the nearby Complejo Arqueológico de Chukimarca (also called Templo de los Monos due to its carved monkey figures), it forms a sacred ceremonial pair linked to fertility and Andean cosmology. Reached by a short uphill hike from the city, these intimate sites offer a quieter, more mystical contrast to larger ruins like Sacsayhuamán.
