Shanxi, known for its rich history and cultural heritage, is a plateau province located in North China. It is bordered by Hebei to the east, Henan to the south, Shaanxi to the west, and Inner Mongolia to the north. The province's terrain is characterized by a plateau bounded partly by mountain ranges, including the Taihang Mountains to the east and the Lüliang Mountains to the west. Shanxi's capital and largest city is Taiyuan, and the province is also home to the famous Yungang Grottoes, which date back over 1500 years.
