hwaseong fortress
Hwaseong Fortress, also known as Suwon Hwaseong, is a stunning example of late 18th-century military architecture in South Korea. Built by King Jeongjo of the Joseon dynasty, it was constructed to honor his father, Prince Sado, and to prepare for a potential new capital city. The fortress encompasses a palace, a perimeter wall, four main gates, and two sluice gates along the Suwoncheon stream. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it represents a significant cultural and historical landmark, located just 30 kilometers south of Seoul.
